F.A.Q.

We recognize that international travel is a big ask, and we want to make sure you have everything you need should you choose to make the trip. Below is a long list of every question we could think of answering in regard to our wedding. If you still need help, not a problem–our emails are listed at the bottom of this page.

I’m concerned about traveling to Mexico. Do you have any safety precautions you can recommend?

We completely understand your concerns, and your safety and comfort are very important to us. Mexico City is an amazing place full of color, culture, and delicious food, but like with any big city, it’s smart to stay aware and follow some simple precautions.

We’ve already included lots of tips and suggestions throughout the site (so be sure to check those out!), but here are a few quick reminders:

  • Stick to well-known neighborhoods like Roma, Condesa, Polanco, etc.

  • Ride-sharing apps like Uber are your best bet for getting around safely and easily.

  • And just a heads up: the tap water isn’t drinkable, so we recommend sticking to bottled or filtered water (don’t worry—hotels and restaurants are super used to this!).

We’re here to help if you have any specific concerns, so don’t hesitate to reach out. We’re so excited to celebrate with you and can’t wait to show you the magic of CDMX!

Should I be worried about the elevation in Mexico City?

Mexico City sits at about 7,300 feet (2,240 meters) above sea level—so yes, it's literally a bit of a high point! While most travelers adjust just fine, if you're sensitive to altitude or prone to elevation sickness, you might feel a little off (think: mild headaches, fatigue, or shortness of breath).

We recommend arriving a day early if possible, especially if you want to give your body time to adjust and feel your best for the celebration. Hydration is key (yes, even before the margaritas), and taking it easy the first day helps a lot.

When in doubt: drink water, rest up, and let the tacos do the healing.

Should I bring or exchange cash for this trip?

Yes, it's a good idea to bring some cash! Tipping is customary in Mexico—about 15% is standard—and it’s especially appreciated by housekeeping and service staff. While credit cards and Apple Pay are widely accepted at restaurants and bars, having pesos on hand is helpful for tips and small purchases. You can tip in U.S. dollars, but pesos are preferred since it's the local currency and easier for staff to use. If you need to withdraw cash, Santander ATMs are easy to find and usually have better rates than airport exchanges.

Do I need an international phone plan?

This might be easier than you think! Several major U.S. wireless carriers offer phone plans that automatically include coverage in both Mexico and Canada. Check your phone plan to confirm. If not, adding coverage tends to be easy and affordable. If you’d prefer not to go this route, wifi is widely available and accessible throughout Mexico City.

What will the weather be like this time of year?

The high in CDMX in April is 82ºF, with average temperatures ranging from mid-60s to mid-70s. Sunset is around 7:00 PM. As the city is at a higher altitude, it does get chilly in the evening, so you may want to bring a light layer.

What should I wear? Is there a dress code?

Our wedding dress code is cocktail attire, keeping in mind we will be outdoors for both the ceremony and cocktail hour. The reception will be indoors.

How do I get to the venue? How do I get around?

Uber is easy, reliable, and affordable in Mexico City. Make sure you have the app downloaded and a credit card attached.

What time should I arrive at the ceremony?

Our ceremony is scheduled for 5:00 PM, so please arrive early starting at 4:30 PM to make sure we’re on schedule. During this time, you are encouraged to explore the garden, mingle, and grab a cocktail.

Can I bring a date?

Please check your invite for your +1!

Are children invited?

We love your little ones, but we kindly ask that our wedding be an adults-only celebration (aside from our four nieces and nephews). We hope you enjoy a night off to relax and celebrate with us!

Will food be served at the reception? Will there be any vegan/vegetarian/gluten free/special diet options?

You’ll enjoy a sit-down plated vegan (yep, it’s all vegan!) dinner for our reception, with light appetizers during cocktail hour beforehand. In addition, there will be a late night snack to keep the party going. Special diet menu options are available, so please specify any when you RSVP.

Will there be an open bar?

You bet! Let’s get this party started! Pace yourself though–this thing lasts until 2 AM.

Is it okay to post wedding photos on social media?

Yes! We would love for you to take photos, share them with us, tag us in them, etc. However, please refrain from taking photos during the ceremony.

Are there other wedding events I can attend?

Yes! Please see the Schedule of Events.

Where are you registered?

Your love and support is all we ask for on our special day, but if you’d like to celebrate with a gift, you can browse our online registry or contribute to our newlywed fund here

What should I do if I can’t make it?

You will be missed! If you can’t make it to the wedding, please let us know as soon as possible and RSVP “no,” so we can plan accordingly.

I still have questions, what is the best way to contact you?

No worries! Email us at stefanie.motte@gmail.com or philliptibbs@gmail.com with any additional questions.
